So, my wife came back from Winnipeg with her broken laptop (according to Nerds On Site Winnipeg, but I’ll write about that in another blog post). Anyway, since she has a nice shiny new laptop I figured I’d give Windows 7 a spin on her old one. And my option of Windows 7 so far? It’s great.
It was a fast install, fastest Windows install I’ve ever seen, and it runs quick and smoothly. The only issue I had was finding the right sound card driver that worked properly. Eventually I did, but you could blame HP for that one. So if you are trying to install Windows 7 on a HP Pavilion dv1650ca, use the driver sp32864.exe found here. I used the driver that they originally recommended forVista for my laptop model, but it had an issue where it would only work when headphones were plugged in.
The HP Pavilion dv1650 is a Intel Centrino Duo Core Duo T2300 1.66GHz with 1GB of RAM, and so far seems to run Windows 7 very well.
