Cisco Thinks You Should Run Your Web App on The Router

by Brian on 12/19/2008

picture-11Well, I guess the real future of computing is running your applications, not on the server, not on the cloud, but the router! At least according to Cisco Systems.

I saw an advertisement for their AXP Contest on Facebook. Esstentially, AXP (application extension program), wants you, the developer to “think outside the box,” meaning outside the server, and instead develop your application to run right on the router.

I guess it saves power if you can have everything running on one device, the router.

    This is cool!

They also have VMware support – You can develop your application on VMware and run it on AXP. I don't need a router to participate in this contest.

I think this is a game changer – You can now pretty much integrate most server based applications onto t router.. wow…

For prize money of $100,000 I am in !!

    Cheers,
    Jason

It reminds me of the new way of websites, where you don't need web hosting. The .tel extension for domains is 'suppose' to bring a movement of change for the Internet. You type in Mac.tel to gain contact information and live information.

I'm hoping it changes the Internet a lot better then .mobi promised.

Is Router having their own engine to run the applications? What about data store or data source?
