If you’ve ever tried editing a WordPress theme, you’ve probably found yourself asking, “what the heck are all these PHP function calls for?” The theme engine tends not to be the easiest concept to grasp at first. Also, if you’ve ever wanted to build your own themes, you may find yourself wondering what are all the features I need to add and where do I start?
Well, I’ve recently stumbled upon a few sandbox and minimalist templates over at plaintxt.org. Simplr is a great template to use to make your own templates, a lot of customization can easily be added by using CSS. Also, Blogtxt is another good choice.
