Here is an interesting story from the Globe and Mail. What I find really ridiculous is the part about how the manager contradicts herself at the end of the article by saying “The Timbits given to pets, Ms. Mitchell added, are usually ‘day-old and recycled.’”
Normally stores allow their employees a certain dollar amount of products they can give away for free to “deal” with an unhappy customer, or make up for bad customer service. Staples had the ten dollar rule, and I believe McDonald’s lets their employees giveaway an ice cream cone or a pie.
