Switching to Slicehost from Godaddy

by Brian on 2/9/2008

I’ve just switched my VPS (virtual private server) host from Godaddy to Slicehost. I was frustrated with:

  • Godaddy’s 1000 SMTP email limit
  • The fact that the POP3 server would crash twice a week and require restarting
  • How the entire server would just lock up randomly during the day
  • Upgrading the OS require re-provisioning the VPS (erasing everything)

Slicehost offers:

  • $10 off the price compared to Godaddy
  • No email limits
  • Larger selection of Linux distros
  • The system administrators have a Campfire chatroom where they hangout

Will see how the VPS holds up when I move more sites and email traffic to it, but so far looks promising.
