It’s probably reasonable to say that people in and around my generation have barely any amount of money saved, if any, and in most cases are greatly in debt. From what I hear, this was not really the case in previous generations. So that makes me ask, why the change?
The best I could come up with–and correct me if I’m wrong–that my generation is bombarded by a significantly greater amount of advertising and messages encouraging us to buy, and spend. These messages to spend are put out by corporations driven to achieve profit, without any moral responsibility to protect the consumer. They could do whatever is neccesary to get the consumer to spend more so that they can achieve greater sales, so we are left with consumers with credit card debt.
If only my generation could have been more like the one before us, but hey, maybe they didn’t have as much presure to spend as we did. It would have been much nicer if my generation could have saved, and invested our money into stocks. Stocks in coporations that would maximize profits and give us a high return on investment. I mean, as long as they maximize their sales perhaps we could repay our debt. We would only taking money from our children.
