If there’s one thing I’m certain about, I won’t be voting for the Green Party. I attended the all candidates debate at the Lakehead University Outpost today. I wasn’t too impressed by Russ Aegarnd’s (Green Party) comments about the bible, economics, and respect for religion.
First of all, Russ compares the “definition of traditional marriage” as something that comes from the bible, and is like beating slaves, or beating your children. Later during the same debate he says, “that [he] has respect for all religions.” If you have respect for religion, then don’t use a narrow minded statement. I felt he devalued the bible, and used it as a political weapon. His comment suggests that he doesn’t respect the bible, which may or may not be true, but that is the impression he left on me. I don’t want a candidate who creates division; I would prefere one that bridges it.
David Lesktoski (Conservative) had a good answer to the question regarding the traditional definition of marriage, “you don’t call a woman a man so that she can have the same rights as a man.” Joe Comuzzi (Liberal), was clear and precise on where he stood regarding the issue, and where he would always stand. I like that in a candidate, but I only wish they could be clear on where they stood on other issues too.
Secondly, Russ’s comment that “I know nothing about economics,” wasn’t too impressive. Everyone knows something about economics, as long as you’re breathing you must know something. Don’t run in an election if all you can do is talk with your mouth. Learn something! And this guy said he was a school teacher.
