This morning when I woke up I was reminded of a blog I wrote back in March:
I think chapter three in my life has begun. I guess it’s something that happens at twenty-one.
Chapter one was spent getting introduced to God. Chapter two was spent going deeper, and establishing some sort of foundation. Now, chapter three seems to be about establishing what will become the pinnacle of my life, the ministry through which I serve.
I feel like a chapter has ended, and a new one has begun.
This morning, when I remembered that I had wrote this post a few months ago, I got kind of excited because it’s like God is saying to me, “I want to use you. I have a purpose for you. And I have it all planned out for you.” It’s cool that God is faithful to write out and reveal his promises. I am truly living out chapter three.
So God is leading me into teaching; it makes sense. (At this point in the blog, Christine and Carly walk into Seattle and say hi) Countless times I’ve heard comments like, “you show a lot of wisdom in what you say.” Or your blog posts are encouraging and inspiring. When I open my mouth I say something useful.
I also find that I like reading, writing, and studying. That’s what I’m doing now at Seattle Coffee House. I could read and study the bible endlessly. I somehow have this ability to read books, finish them, learn from them, remember information and sort through it.
I can be entertaining and share stories with a group. I don’t really have any problems talking in front of a large group of people, which may be contrary to what I portray in my personality. In school I always enjoyed freaking out teachers when I would give a presentation because I would actually talk.
So now, lets see where God takes this whole teaching thing. I have a heart for it.
Anyway, here’s something I read in the bible today:
As God’s messenger, I give each of you this warning: Be honest in your estimate of yourselves, measuring your value by how much faith God has given you. Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are all parts of his one body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others.
God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out when you have faith that God is speaking through you. If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, do a good job of teaching. If your gift is to encourage others, do it! If you have money, share it generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.
Don’t just pretend that you love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically.
Be glad for all God is planning for you. Be patient in trouble, and always be prayerful. When God’s children are in need, be the one to help them out. And get into the habit of inviting guests home for dinner or, if they need lodging, for the night. –Romans 12:3-13
