I’m looking at the story of Moses in the basket again, and I think that when I was first taught this story in Sunday School it wasn’t taught right.
When Moses’ mother put him in the basket, and placed him in the river she had no clue what was going to happen to him. I guess for some reason I was led to believe she knew what was going to happen, or that it was part of her sheme to give the child to Pharaoh’s daughter, but it wasn’t.
All she knew was that child was destined to die by Pharaoh’s order, and she could no longer hide the child. Putting the child in the basket was her giving up the child to God. Obviously. any loving mother wouldn’t drown her child, or bear to let it die.
Strangely enough, Pharaoh’s daughter came down to the river to bath, and saw the basket. Also, she knew it was a Hebrew child, the one’s her dad wanted killed, and she had compassion and kept the child as her own.
Moses’ mother had no clue this would happen.
