I’m sitting in Seattle again and read a few more chapters of More Ready Than You Realize. Erin‘s working today. Since I come here often enough, I wonder how long it will take her to realize that when I come here about 90% of the time I always order a large coffee with just cream. I always find it cool when the person serving me knows what I’m ordering before I even give the order–I usually tip people who remember. The other 10% of the time I’m buying lunch.
Normally we think that wealth is defined by how much money we have in our bank accounts. Lately, I’ve been thinking that this idea is wrong. Rather, I think wealth is defined by my ability to go out, do and accomplish stuff.
The parable of the talents talks about us being given something, and then using that something to increase it for the master who gave it to us. So, I thought about what I have been given. I have been given a body, a brain with knowledge, skills and abilities, I can read and write, I have interests. Some people have more than what I have, other people have less. Eitherway, we all have something.
I was thinking about this as I was driving in my van yesterday. I was driving to the Greyhound Bus station to pick up a package, then I drove to Staples for supplies, then to the office to drop of the package to my co-worker, then out to Murillo to test some equipment for a customer, and finally I drove back into town to the churh to meet with Ray about teaching for Redwood Kids. This is why I think Rich People Live in Cars, because when you are in a car you’re going somewhere to get something done. The same thing could be said for talking on the phone, writing emails, writing a book, a blog, going to band practices, classes, picking up and driving friends places. In your head you see this vision or purpose, and you go out to accompish it.
This is why I go crazy on plane rides, they seem to bring out the vastness of the mission.
