Rob Bell Quotes

by Brian on 2/22/2005

How can I be a part of history? That’s why those of you who have made a lot of money and have been very successful, deep in your bones it didn’t bring what it was suppose to because you were made to be a part in redemptive history.

God, could you please use me to serve your world.

It’s not about us… It’s not about us being a part of a Christian bubble… It’s about us being a part of the real world. It’s about us reclaiming the arts, and leading in creativity…

Hmm… where have I heard that before.

If you use the word postmodern… you aren’t

Hehe…

Rob bell is getting people motivated, getting them thinking. Hes pushing the boundaries created by the church (be mad, i don't care) and getting people to question what they believe in.

People are taking what he says at face value or only reading what they want to read (I.E that hes a heretic, satans work, silver tongue etc) when really hes just trying to get people to question what they believe in and really get involved in finding out more about Jesus and our god.

With open hearts and open minds.

For the record, you really can't be angry at people for "believing the wrong thing" if you're a Christian. It kind of goes against the whole point. So let's please try to turn this back into a discussion rather than an arguement. It's not what God wants for either side.

For those of you talking about Rob Bell like he's a vulture being led by the devil, can I ask you something? Is it at all possible that you're more concerned about being "right" than about loving God? Because hanging onto the rules you learned in Sunday school just because they're the rules you learned in Sunday school is a dangerous thing. Its easy to do, but you wind up trying to fight those you're against rather than love them.

The fact is, Rob Bell is wrong about a lot of things. I say this not because I disagree with his books, but because he's human and therefore deeply flawed and I'm human and therefore deeply flawed. He says flat out that you should question what he's saying and weigh it in your own hearts (paraphrasing from the Bible) and and that he's just adding to the conversation. But he's also said that he loves God and Jesus Christ. He believes in loving people as God loved us. So in the end, we're on the same page.

Being angry is only going to make problems worse. Disagree with him if you want, but going around calling people the Devil is exactly where non-believers get the idea that Christians are uptight and stuck up.

Read unChristian for more. At least do me a favor and google it.

I am a huge fan of Rob Bell and what I get from Velvet Elvis is that he wants people to think about what God means to them. The writings of the Bible are guidelines to understanding, after all why would Jesus talk through parables, why not just tell us what he wants us to know. Question what the Bible means is a good thing, it gives a better understanding and it makes you think about God more, not just on Sunday when someone is preaching to, but all the time and that is all that God wants you to do, because that means you are always looking towards and focusing on Him.

It's not Rob and God's word ,it's God's word,,,,,,, In the end times there will be more and more wolfs like Rob,,I don't know if your arms are long enough but mine are not, that is to box with GOD.It' not velvet elvis it's repainting the gospel,I think somewhere down the line either after getting knocked in the head or the fact that he never gave himself over the Jesus of the gospel, but his belief system is not of GOD , but man he sure has the gift of the devils silver tongue. Best book around (besides the Bible itself) to get a great understanding how many are being led away from (or kept from) Jesus and being brought into the devils den is John MacArthurs THE TRUTH WARS. If been divievered from the gates of (Biblical)Hell from the preaching of men like him . Not the designer god of Rob and Kristen Bell or the likes of people like brian mclaren,,,,,, truth is truth it never goes out of style

I love when people misspell words when telling people that they misspelled something...brilliant.

Sounds like someone is being less than charitable this fine month of April...

Whether people open a Bible or not, does not impinge upon the absolute truth claims the Bible makes for itself. Further, while God cannot be contained within a book, he can reveal himself in one.

No one can ever (Not on - not ever) can know God in any meaningful sense apart from the special revelation of Scripture. Now, that said, the Bible does say that people are responsible for knowing of God through general revelation (see Romans 1), they cannot know him in a salvific sense. Apart from the revelation in Scripture, no one and no "perspective" is able to save.

Let's keep that in mind when we consider whether anyone (Mr. Bell included) may or may not hold an appropriate view of Scripture.

    Soli Deo Gloria

You should lear how to spell stupid, stupid. Consider having perspective beyond your own- because there are literally billions of people in this world who will never open a Bible, and you certainly cannot hold God in a book. That doesn't mean the Bible's not true-- it means God's bigger than it.

"If you use the word postmodern… you aren’t" is actually quite silly.

With respect to Rob Bell's view of the Bible: Read for yourself at http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2004/november/12.36.html

Look for: The Bells started questioning their assumptions about the Bible itself—"discovering the Bible as a human product," as Rob puts it, rather than the product of divine fiat. "The Bible is still in the center for us," Rob says, "but it's a different kind of center. We want to embrace mystery, rather than conquer it."

Ask yourself: Why is it STILL the center for you? Why keep it there? Why have a center for you at all?

Embracing mystery calls for still having the Bible in the center?

There are other human products... why not embrase those mysteries?

Some emergent types will say these are 'stoopid' or 'mean' questions from someone who does not get it. Your right... that is why I'm asking the question.

I heard somebody use a quote from Rob Bell one time that made reference to him not believing that the Bible is sufficient for todays teaching. Is there any truth to this statement? Does he not believe that the Bible is 100% accurate?
  • I love Rob Bell! He always hits the nail on the head... and he's very quotable.
