This is just a warning to everyone. No matter what the results of the elections are, please do not make stupid cheap-shot remarks about whoever won or lost the election. The issues at stake are more complicated than your understanding, and by making cheap-shot comments about either Bush or Kerry, more likely what you are actually doing is damaging the relationships to the people around you. I remember during our elections, someone after a Bible study asked me about my political views were, and I might have mentioned that my dad is kind of Liberal (the party), and he said something like, “And you’re dad is a Christian?” I really felt like punching that guy in the face at that moment, or just running away angrily like I used to do when I was a kid, but I didn’t. I honestly felt, as bluntly and degrading to myself as this may be, that the guy would said that to me should go to hell because that’s where proud people like him belong–maybe I’m proud too, but he said a really hurtful thing to me about my dad.
So have some respect for people, have some humility… don’t be afraid to think that you might be wrong, or maybe others are right. Listen more than you talk. And ask questions. You learn stuff that way.
