Computer Talk

In response to Suzie‘s comment to one of my posts, I would like to say… That’s nothing! If you want to hear computer talk, that’s nothing. :)

While on the topic of computers, I guess I should say that Ray knows how to keep volunteers. Last Sunday before the early Red Wood Kids service I was in Ray’s office with Suzanne and Kayla, and Ray was describing me as, “the computer geek who is not really a computer geek.” Then he went on to describe me as someone who knows a lot about computers, but still has a personality. For some reason I really liked that description; I really did. I felt like I wasn’t being quickly judged, and the other nice thing about it was that it made me feel like I am accepted and belong in the group.

I guess it’s the part of me that needs someone outside of myself to make me feel accepted and loved. I’m thinking that one of these days I’ll watch CSI and/or ER at Ray’s house–maybe when his TV is fixed.

Anyway, I think that I’m going to post a bit more about computers, at least about the things that I’m doing, learning or working on. For example, last night while Nathan was telling me how much he would like to have a PowerBook, I thought that a good practice programming project to work on would be a Songbase like programme that runs on Mac OS X. It wouldn’t be as sophisticated as Songbase, but would allow you to display lyrics on a screen similar to what Songbase does. I guess it would also have a database built in to store songs, but you’d have to enter all the songs in manually. It will take me a while to get used to the Mac OS API’s (application programming interface, used to make such a programme), but I should get familiar with them.

I created two new categories for my blog, News, and Computers. So stuff I post about computers will go into those categories.

*Just a small note, I originally started writing this post a while ago, so the actual dates such as when Ray made that comment, are not exact.
