Supporting the Arts

by Brian on 8/7/2004

I was just reading chapter twelve of Blue Like Jazz and I got to thinking about Don’s second point about Imago:

“Imago supports the arts… Creating an arts group at a church is a great idea.”

So that got me thinking, and it seems pretty obvious from reading that paragraph that we should start an arts group at Plunge; I’ll email Nathan about it. I think it would be really great. There is also a good potential for fellowship in this group, especially for people who are not really interested in the other activities we do—it will get people out. After a while I can picture Plunge on Sunday nights being filled with paintings and artwork. And maybe someday it can get big enough that we can rent out a coffee house like Seattle or Starbucks to display our work.

I am beginning to realize that writing, for me at least, is spiritually healthy. When I am in a regular routine of writing down my thoughts, and doing it as though I am obeying what God wants me to do, it is like I am kindling a fire inside of me. God uses it to draw me closer to him.

I can see him using art to do the same thing too.

That’s cool. And I agree with how writing is so spiritually healthyI’ve been finding that out lately too. Which is really cool!
I really wish I was going to Plunge, I feel like I would fit in quite easily.
You guys seem that have something incredible going on. And of course, God is doing amazing things!
